Once again
Mt.Elephant
was under threat
from another
Quarry
But the VCAT decision
Means NO Quarry
You
the public
helped stop this destruction of our geological heritage
THANK YOU.
Mt Elephant
landmark
National and International tourist attraction
of
the Western District of Victoria,
and the gateway to the KANAWINKA Geopark,
Was under attack from yet another Quarry. On the 25th August 2009 Corangamite Shire Council passed a Planning Permit to allow the opening of a new Quarry on the boundary of Mt Elephant. The planning permit allows for the existing unused Shire quarry to be used as a platform to start a new quarry on the NW boundary of the Mount
even though the Mount and Shire Quarry is covered by a Shire designated Significant Landscape Overlay (SLO)
This ruling by the Corangamite Shire is was the subject of a Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) appeal,
this was the result.
